At a time when owner Lindsey Trumper was feeling she needed to leave the current industry she was in, her then coworker and future partner, Jo Irizarry posed a question that would plant the seed - "What is something you've always wanted to do?"  A coffee shop that sells plants was the dream, but it felt like a lofty idea in the competitive market of Austin, TX. 

That's where Lockhart came into the picture.  Jo knew of a space on the historic square that  was becoming available.  When they saw the space and that it was already laid out well for a coffee concept, it felt meant-to-be.  The lease was signed and just six weeks later, Thorn & Bred was opened to a welcoming and highly-supportive community.

Thorn & Bred is proud to be fully owned and operated by women - Lindsey Trumper lives in South Austin with her partner Drew and two dogs Winston and Leo. Jo Irizarry lives in Lockhart with her rescue dog Yoda, is a trained chef and heavily involved in the Texas BBQ scene.
